The 2019 Hobson-Taylor Family Reunion Committee is very pleased to announce the details of our 17th biennial family reunion. As our family grows, we value these times to get together, fellowship, share our history, and create memories.

The reunion will be Thursday, August 8-11, 2019 in the sunny city of Myrtle Beach, SC.  We are working very hard to organize a weekend full of activities and entertainment catered just for you.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is a wonderful city and vacation resort located on the Atlantic Coast. It is the hub of the Grand Strand, a 60-mile string of beaches. It’s also known for its celebrity-designed golf courses. Along its beachfront boardwalk are arcades, excellent seafood restaurants, as well as the old-fashioned Family Kingdom amusement park and the SkyWheel, one of the country’s tallest Ferris wheels. Beyond the beach, discover former plantations and restored houses ideal for history buffs to explore. We thought it would be a great place for our family and we cannot wait for August 2019.

The reunion planning committee has selected the Compass Cove Resort as our host hotel for the family reunion. Compass Cove Resort is A beachfront property. The hotel offers a wide variety of amenities including indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs, poolside bar, water slides, giant checker and chess boards, shuffleboard, game room, fire pit and outdoor grill, and fitness center. Also you can take a stroll through the area to explore the beach and check out local attractions, including theme parks, museums, mini-golf, the aquarium, shopping, and food.

Room Rate:
The special group rates for the family reunion are between $213.57- $281.37 per night, that includes 13% tax and $11.50 resort occupancy fee. These rates are available Thursday, August 8 through Saturday, August 10, 2019.  Rates are based off three different room types: The Schooner Oceanview Room, The Pinnacle Oceanfront Double Efficiency, and The Pinnacle Oceanfront Double Suite.

Reservation:
Your room is not included in the Reunion registration fees therefore individual reservations are required. A minimum of three (3) nights is required to secure this rate along with a deposit equivalent to one (1) night cost. It is important for group reservations to be received by The Compass Cove Resort no later than May 15, 2019. After the cut off date or once the group block is full, reservations will no longer be accepted at the special group rate; however, group attendees will be quoted the best available rate.

  • An additional charge of $10 is required for photographs which are to be included in any size ad. Business card ads that include a photograph on the card are also accepted.
  • Scan and email your requests to Regenia Stokley at (rstokley@skurnikwines.com). Photos must be submitted as high-resolution .jpg files via email.

 


DESIGN

  • The Souvenir Program Book will be printed in portrait format. Ads may contain any graphics and/or photos as described above.
  • The page design will be consistent throughout the book.
  • The typefaces will be limited to four fonts for the entire book, aside from those supplied.
  • Your graphics will make your page unique.
  • Screens of color and gradation of color do not reproduce well and should be avoided. Black/White is preferred.
  • Please do not over design. Simple is more pleasing to the eye and easier to read.
  • The best means to communicate a change on the journal during the production 
process is in writing, via email. No corrections will be taken over the phone. If they are written, there will be less chance of spelling errors.
  • CAMERA/PRINT READY ADS: 
To ensure excellent quality printing, participants are requested to submit camera-ready ads. Ads must be original, clear black or color print, not fuzzy. Please submit as a Microsoft Word document, with digital quality photographs.
  • TIMELINE FOR RECEIPT OF ADS: All ads must be received no later than the FINAL collection date of: May 31, 2019. 
Any ads received after the deadline may not appear in the souvenir program book.

AD REMITTANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Ads will not be accepted unless they are accompanied by the appropriate amount of money and a submission of funds form. Ads should be listed on the “Ad Form”; a copy of your ad should be attached; and an electronic copy on CD or USB or by email to Regenia Stokley at rstokley@skurnikwines.com.

Remittance of Ads

  • EXACT message must be stated.
  • Spelling must be CORRECT.
  • Message must be TYPED in the appropriate size and format.
  • Submit ORIGINAL pictures only. Please ensure that all pictures are labeled with the participant’s first and last name so that they may be returned to the rightful owner.


Remittance of Patrons

  • Names must be ALPHABETIZED.
 Spelling must be CORRECT.
 Names must be TYPED.
 Names must include a TITLE (Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms., Master, Rev., Dr., Colonel, etc.).
  • Ads must be typed exactly as it is to appear in the Souvenir Journal, or email a copy of your ad and/or business card to Regenia Stokley.

  • All ads are to be print or camera ready. Ad measurements are based on an 8 1⁄2 x 11 page size.

Scholarship

The Hobson-Taylor Family values the importance of an education. We help students achieve their academic goals by providing a scholarship for undergraduate tuition. You can read more about our current scholarship below:

Eligibility:
1. Be one of the following: a graduating high school senior (class of 2019), rising sophomore, rising junior or rising senior in college.
2. Be a member of the Hobson-Taylor family.
3. Be able to provide proof of enrollment at your college or university.

 


Scholarship Details:
Essay Prompt: (1) What is the meaning of family to you and why is it important? OR (2) If you could change one thing about the family reunion, what would it be and why?

Due Date:
Word Count: 500 – 800 words
Format: MLA


How to Enter:

  1. Include a cover letter with the following information: (Name, Address, School Classification, School Attending, Title of Essay)
  2. Craft an essay that responds to the prompt.
  3. Proofread your essay.
  4. Provide proof of enrollment at your school in your email.

Chosen applications that meet ALL requirements will be awarded a scholarship in an amount determined by the committee. This is not a competitive scholarship. The goal is to support and encourage students who have successfully completed high school and who plan to further their education.

The registration fee includes official reunion activities, banquet dinner, breakfast each day and our traditional complementary t-shirt. Additional t-shirts can be ordered at $11.00 per shirt.

All fees are non refundable, and the registration deadline is May 15, 2019.
